#NewPattern is a movement started by Beta Boom that seeks to promote and celebrate founders from various backgrounds to change the homogenous narrative of the startup founder. Diverse founders can and do create hugely successful companies. These companies tend to serve the needs of a greater variety of people and are tremendous opportunities for economic growth and investment.
THE FIRST COALITION:
New Pattern UT
To combat the disparity of funding for Black-owned businesses, who have also been hard-hit by COVID-19, four of Utah’s tech and business community leaders —Womenpreneurs, Utah Black Chamber, Beta Boom and Sorenson Impact—have come together to launch #NewPatternUT, a collaborative grant and mentorship program for black, women-owned business in Utah.
THE SECOND COALITION:
New Pattern CHI
To combat the disparity of funding for underrepresented founders in the Windy City, we’ve launched New Pattern Chicago to provide capital and connections to bridge the funding gap for entrepreneurs with ties to South and West Side Chicago.
Grant winners will receive up to $10K as well as coaching and operational support from our network of Community Partners.
Applications are scheduled to open in mid-January, 2021.
For organizations interested in providing operational support, coaching, and mentorship, please reach out to our New Pattern Chicago head, James Valadez at james(at)betaboom.com.

In order to start a new pattern, we believe in building coalitions to drive toward a unified purpose of building greater representation and economic opportunities for traditionally overlooked groups.
